Both active brothers and alumni alike have been working very hard towards the establishment of our first chapter house. In Spring of 2007, Zeta Gamma Housing Incorporated was formed and our new alumni Board of Directors is taking on the challenges associated with procuring a chapter house such as legal processes, fundraising, and funds management. The initial ZG Housing Board of Directors was elected by the then-standing Executive Council of the Active Chapter (Spring 2007) as stated in the drafted bylaws.
In March 2008, the Housing Board of Directors held its second official meeting during Alumni Weekend. At this meeting, they discussed obtaining non-profit status for the Corporation, adding a new board position, and creating an active Zeta Gamma Honorary Alumni Commission. After reviewing the needs of the Board, the new position of Financial Development was added to focus on fundraising efforts.
Over the next few months, the Board "met" over a number of conference calls. During this time, Megan Wolfe and Jason Silvers were named Chairs of the Zeta Gamma Honorary Alumni Commission. More information about the Zeta Gamma Honorary Alumni Commission will follow, but briefly, this committee will be the active group working towards securing a house through fundraising efforts. Every Zeta Gamma alumni is welcomed and encouraged to participate in this group in any way that they can.
The Housing Board was able to meet in Gainesville in September 2009 for two days of meetings and connecting with the active chapter. We finalized changes to the Corporation's By-laws, discussed securing our funds, and heard an inspiring status report from Megan and Jason on the Zeta Gamma Honorary Alumni Commission. The Housing Board continues to have regular conference call meetings and will continue on-campus meetings during Fall and Spring Semesters. When we get closer to those dates, meeting details will be sent out via the Alumni List-Serve. If you are not currently on the list-serve, please contact Zeta Gamma's Corresponding Secretary.
The Housing Board also finalized a short list of goals for the Corporation in terms of alumni participation:
August - December, Fall Semester 2009:
-Hold a fundraising event related to Gator football in Gainesville, FL.
March 2010, Alumni Day:
-Have 20% of alumni contributing to the housing fund.
-Have 50% of the contributing alumni be active members of the housing corporation committee.
March 2011, Alumni Day:
-Have 75% alumni contributing to the housing corporation with 50% of those being active alumni in the housing corporation.
-Have at least 20 alumni eligible and actively interested in taking on leadership roles on the Board of Directors or in the Zeta Gamma Honorary Alumni Commission.
It is important to remember that our overall goal is to secure a house for the Zeta Gamma Chapter of Theta Tau. A house will not only unite the active brothers, but also provide us with a home-base where we can proudly congregate as alumni. We welcome any comments or suggestions on fundraising efforts, future events, or the Committee in general. We hope that many of you will consider taking an active role in the Committee and giving back to our chapter!
